My soap journey started when I decided to make my own laundry detergent with simple ingredients that I could purchase at any store. I still make a big five gallon bucket of detergent that last six month and costs less than $5.

While continuing my research I stumbled upon a video of a woman making her own cold processed soap using lye and household oils (I think she used lard). I decided I wanted to try my hand at soap making. I watched many videos, read books and scoured the internet, and found myself  purchasing simple ingredients at the grocery and hardware stores. Using a cardboard box as a mold, my first soaps were made, and I was hooked. My recipes have evolved and many of my ingredients are now purchased from specialty soap supply companies. I'm always on the lookout for new clays, colorings, fragrances and swirl techniques. I've made many friends from around the world      who are making handmade soap and skincare products and have the same passion for soap making that I do.

Southern California is where I grew up and where my family still lives. I'm an animal lover with a dog, a bird and even chickens in the backyard. It's important to me that my ingredients are all cruelty free and responsibly sourced.

I believe in helping others, and with proceeds from the sales of my soaps, I've purchased and assembled personal care kits that I've handed out to local homeless men and woman. Since 2007 I have been making regular Micro Loans through Kiva.org focusing on women working to improve their families lives by purchasing water tanks, pigs, chickens, cattle, rickshaws and weaving equipment. Most recently to a soap maker in Kenya which was partially funded by Malena Soap Co.

Thank you for visiting my website, I hope you'll love using your bar of soap as much as I loved making it for you!

A little bit about the ingredients used in my soaps:

Olive Oil - Helps produce silky bubbles in handmade soap. Suitable for babies and those with sensitive skin

Coconut Oil - Coconut oil's saturated nature resists rancidity and make a very hard soap while it contributes to a wonderful lather. It's also an excellent  natural cleanser

Palm - (Responsibly Sourced)  - From the pulp of the fruit from palm trees, helps make a hard bar of soap

Castor Oil - Gives a good rich, creamy lather and helps produce lots of bubbles

Sweet Almond Oil - provides a stable moisturizing lather. Gentle to dry, irritated skin

Cocoa Butter - Is a fat extracted from the cocoa beans, used as an emollient.

Kaolin Clay - One of the oldest clays used. Calming to the skin, may help the soap hold the added scent

Colloidal Oatmeal- finely ground oats. Soothing to the skin

Activated Charcoal - (if black is in the design) produced from a variety of responsibly sourced hard woods
